In this presentation we will birfly discuss how Astronomy can be a valid tool to inspire young generations of students in the Eastern Africa countries (Uganda, Ruanda, Burúndi, Tanzania, Etiopia). We will explain our experience in these places and which possibilities there are to continue collaborating with them. The coordinator of our program, Dr. Mirjana Povic, has recently been won the prestigious prize, Nature Research Awards for her efforts among these communities.

 

Fernando Buitrago has a first degree in Physics and Cumputational Engineering from the University of Salamanca. After his master degreein the telescopes of the Canary Islands, he obtained his PhD at the University of Nottingham studying the largest galaxies in the Universe. He worked for several years at the Royal Edingburgh and currently he is a researcher of the Institute of Astrophysics and Space Sciences.
