Fly With Me
Last July, twelve children from Tavira visited OLA in the context of the program. “Fly With Me”.
They had the opportunity to observe the Sun through the telescope, learn to read the solar time and stay overnight under the stars.
Sob o Céu de Messejana
For the third year, OLA coordinated some of the activities in the quiet village of Messejana in Aljustrel where it developed a program for children and a stargazing session.

From Tuesday to Saturday at 21:30
Stargazing
A guided tour of the magnificent sky of Monsaraz, where one can learn the orientation by the Northern Star, identify constellations and their legends, relate colours of stars with their ages, observe star clusters, nebulas and distant galaxies with the help of telescopes. The explanations are provided in simple language by OLA’s guides.

Astronomical Saturdays
Every Saturday afternoon, OLA offers activities for children where the young astronomers learn more about science and astronomy in an entertaining and relaxed way. Consult here our calendar of activities.

3rd August at 23:45 – Workshop on deep sky photography
A three hour session where the participants can follow and experiment the steps of acquiring deep sky images and learn how to process them. The participants use the observatory’s main telescope and become, for one night, the astronomers on duty.

17th August at 21:30 – Moonwathing & Stargazing
In collaboration with Portugal Birds & Trails, two events have been scheduled at Observatorio do Lago Alqueva – OLA, which allie the astronomical observation with the nocturnal bird migrations.

24th August at 23:45 – Astrophotographer for one night
During two hours the participants will learn the basic camera definitions that will allow them to acquire night photos with landscpae. The session will start with a brief theoretical introduction followed by exercises in OLA’s field.

31st August at 23:45 – Workshop on deep sky photography

For the third year, OLA brings to Monsaraz the European Researchers Night with a set of experimental activities and presentations by researchers of various different areas.
