A guided tour of the magnificent sky of Monsaraz, where one can learn the orientation by the Northern Star, identify constellations and their legends, relate colours of stars with their ages, observe star clusters, nebulas and distant galaxies with the help of telescopes. The explanations are provided in simple language by the OLA’s guides. | |

9 Fev at 18:30 – Science Café: Spreading out Astronomy in Eastern Africa | |
In this presentation given Dr Buitrago (IA) we will briefly discuss how Astronomy can be a valid tool to inspire young generations of students in the Eastern Africa countries. | |
9 & 10 Fev – Astronomy Course II: Galaxies, the building blocks of our Universe | |
Course coordinated by Dr. Buitrago (IA), where concepts such as the classification of galaxies, their formation and evolution and their spacial distribution are discussed. | |
9 Mar – Science Café: 100 years of gravitational lenses | |
Dr Ismael Tereno (IA) presents the phenomenon and discusses the several types of gravitational lenses that we know in the Universe. It will also describe some applications of gravitational lenses that have been contributing to the advance of our understanding of the Universe and in particular the ones used by the space mission Euclid. | |
2 & 3 Mar – Astronomy Course III: Astronomical Observations | |
In this module the apparent motions of the celestial sphere, the constellations, measurement of angles in the sky and techniques for observing astronomical objects will be explored. | |
