OLA brought the NEI 2018 to Monsaraz |
| For the second consecutive year, OLA brought the European Researchers Night to Monsaraz on the 28th of September. A big thank you to all the researchers participating and to Hortênsia de Castro High School from Vila Viçosa for the visit. Click on the photo on the left for a record of the event. | |

Stargazing sessions From Tuesday to Saturday at 21:30 (October) or 18:30 (November) |
| A guided tour of the magnificent sky of Monsaraz, where one can learn the orientation by the Northern Star, identify constellations and their legends, relate colours of stars with their ages, observe star clusters, nebulas and distant galaxies with the help of telescopes. The explanations are provided in simple language by the OLA’s guides.

12 Oct – Astronomer for one night |
| In this night the participants are the astronomers on duty. They learn how to use the main telescope of OLA, to acquire images and process them in order to obtain superb images of distant galaxies and nebulas that they can take back home. Registration limited to a maximum of 5 people. | |

19 Oct – Astrophotographer for one night |
| In just two hours, the participants are introduced and practice in our park the definitions that cameras must have in order to give the first steps into landscape astrophotography. Registration limited to a maximum of 5 people. | |

20 Oct – Science Café: The beginning of the Universe |
| On this presentation, Prof. Pedro Gil Ferreira from the University of Oxford, describes the story of how the actual theory of cosmology was reached, where Einstein theory of relativity and the extraordinary capabilities of the new observatories had a fundamental role. | |

3 Nov – Astrophotographer for one night |

17 Nov – Science Café: Melo e Simas, the portuguese astronomer who tested Einstein |
| Prof. Ana Simões from the University of Lisbon will reveal that Melo e Simas conceived an alternative method to confirm the bending of light trajectories, one of Einstein’s general theory of relativity predictions, verified initially on the 29th of May 1919 by Eddington. | |
